Jamie Hector

Frederick Douglass: Jamie Hector

Actor Jamie Hector, best known for playing Marlo Stanfield on the HBO series The Wire, will play the older Douglass.

He will be a leading player on the upcoming season of NBC's Heroes.


Kendall Jones

Young Frederick Douglass: Kendall Jones

Kendall Avery Jones is 12 years old and a 7th grade Honor Roll Student at Hamden Middle School. He resides in Hamden, Conn. Kendall has been in the business, both modeling and acting since the age of 3. Credits include commercials, educational videos, magazine ads and an extra in the film Reservation Road. Kendall has been highly recognized in school for his work as an artist and he also plays the saxophone.

A seventh-grader at Hamden Middle School, Jones originally auditioned for another role before he landed the part of young Frederick. Though he doesn't plan to pursue a career as an actor (he wants to be an architect), he was excited about his new job.


Chandra Caldwell

Frederick Douglass's mother: Chandra Caldwell

Newcomer Chandra Caldwell is thrilled and honored to be making her TV debut in this movie about Frederick Douglass. She was most recently seen as Kamari in Angel's Blade: The Ascension. Other credits include, Jamerican, BUT Was it Murder, Upstaged and Beggars of Their Desire. A licensed scuba diver, Chandra received her B.A. in Chinese Studies and International Business but decided that she preferred "acting" like an International Business Woman. She is a proud member of AFTRA who lives in Manhattan.


Dolores Fleming

Frederick Douglass's grandmother: Dolores Fleming

Dolores Fleming has been an actress for over 15 years . She has displayed her talents in numerous commercials, theatre, film, Commercial print advertising and as an Adjunct Professor of Communications. She is delighted to be playing the role of Frederick Douglass's grandmother, Betsy Bailey, in this production.


Marion Mason

Sweet: Marion Mason

Marion is 16 and a high school junior at Staples in Westport, Conn. Her love of acting began with theatre productions in middle school and it still consumes most of her after school hours through her involvement with the highly acclaimed, award-winning Staples Players in Westport. In her free time she enjoys horseback riding, drawing & listening to music. She plans to major in drama & design in college. Marion is excited to be back on a movie set again and is looking forward to bringing her character, Sweet, to life.


Teresa Teed

Frederick Douglass's Aunt Hester: Teresa Teed

Born in the Dominican Republic and adopted into America at the age of four, Teresa Teed (Lucrecia Ramirez) is an aspiring model/actress. She graduated from the University of Bridgeport for Dental Hygiene and is now pursuing her more passionate dreams of acting, modeling, and even singing. She currently works in a naturopathic doctor's office in Norwalk, Conn., and spends any free time going out on casting calls and promoting her acting career. This 23-year-old hopes to one day play an important role in society and the world. Until then every stride is to her goals.


Charly Alvarez

M-Rod: Charly Alvarez

A resident of Farmington, Conn., Charly Alvarez started his acting career at the tender age of 5. He has blossomed into a talented actor with great range. Along with television commercial roles and movies to his credit, Charly has also lent his voice to television characters. Charly has worked in Miami, New York, Chicago as well as Hollywood, feeling comfortable and at ease in each one of the locations. You may have also seen Charly in a number of printed advertisements that undoubtedly have captured many with his bright eyes and charming smile.

Charly is a die-hard Yankee fan who loves to swim, roller blade, snow boarding, ice skating, golf, tennis and ride his bike. Due to his wide range of work, Charly has been a SAG member since he was 8-years-old and has shared starring roles with Alex Rodriguez, third baseman for the New York Yankees, and Academy Award-nominated, Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor of film and stage, James Earl Jones.


Mary Ann Wasil Nilan

Jane Hoff: Mary Ann Wasil Nilan

Mary Ann Wasil Nilan is thrilled to join the cast as teacher Jane Hoff in this groundbreaking educational series about young American heroes! Mary Ann played a police officer on All My Children for nearly ten years after spending six years working the midnight shift on a real Connecticut police department. Several independent films, including Trees and Trees II, dozens of commercials, voice-overs and print work, make a resume that pales in comparison to her real-life role as "Mom" to three teenagers, and as a breast cancer survivor, warrior and health activist! Mary Ann is the founder and president of the Get In Touch Foundation, a non-profit breast cancer educational organization with a focus on teaching 11 year-old-girls the importance of self-exam. Ryder Chasen

Thompson Bailey: Ryder Chasen

Ryder Chasen, a resident of Westport, Conn., is 11 years old and a veteran of stage and screen. He has appeared in Universal Pictures' Definitely, Maybe as "Boy with Book," and on stage as Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music and Cinderella's Prince in Into the Woods for the Center Stage Theatre Company; in The Good Lie, Goose Alley Gang and The Pirate Prince for Norwalk's Crystal Theater. At Kings Highway School, he appeared as P.T. Barnum in P.T. The Greatest Showman on Earth. He has trained at the Center Stage Theatre Company, Missoula Children's Theatre, Curtain Call, the Fairfield Theater Company, and Film & Television Workshop of CT. He is the lead singer in the group "Twisted," plays keyboard, electric and double bass, beatbox and... is a Mets fanatic.


J.J. Singleton

JJ: J.J. Singleton

Born a native New Yorker, J.J. has been a part of the Disney family for about 3 years. He made his Broadway debut playing Young Simba in Disney's The Lion King. He also played the role of Flounder in the New Disney Musical, The Little Mermaid. He's done some TV work, voiceover work for Nickelodeon and recently did an episode on 30 Rock. J.J. looks forward to making his film debut. J.J. volunteers for SAG NY Book Pals, Broadway Kids Care and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. J.J. feels giving back to the community is a very important part of who he is. He loves playing ice hockey and just being a regular teenage kid.


John Halas

Hughes: John Halas

A Danbury, Conn., native, John is a career firefighter in his hometown. He began modeling and acting in 2005, studying acting at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Conn. He currently studies acting at Actors Alliance in New York City and at Winnick's Studio in Westport, Conn. He has appeared in print ads for Tommy Hilfiger, Game Sportswear, NHL Magazine, and Field & Stream, among others. He appeared in the third season of Rescue Me as Rocco, and in many TV commercials, and the Connecticut Advertising Club 2008 Awards Show.
